Mobile network carrier Three has seen a sudden loss of service this morning, with thousands of users across the country unable to make calls, access the internet or send text messages. It appears that their website is also affected as it was inaccessible this morning, Thursday 17th October, displaying a message that stated ‘essential maintenance’ was taking place.

Three has taken to social media, tweeting from their official account that the company is “currently experiencing technical difficulties”. At the same time, multiple messages are flooding in on social networks since last last night, with status-tracking website Down Detector showing spikes in outages across the country.

In their tweet just before 9am this morning, Three UK stated: “We’re currently experiencing technical difficulties with voice, text and data, meaning some of you will be experiencing intermittent service. Please accept our apologies, we’re sorting this out right now. Check back here for updates.”

This is unfortunate timing for Three, taking place on the same day that competitor O2 has begun rolling out its new next-generation mobile data network, 5G.

“Three is currently experiencing technical difficulties with our service across voice, text and data, which means that some customers will be experiencing an intermittent service (…) Our engineers are working on the issue now to fix the problem as soon as possible. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers.”
