Today it’s National Clean Out Your Computer Day, which means taking the time to finally clean your PC of any programs you don’t need, which could potentially slow down your PC.

Even if January is long gone, it does not mean your New Year resolution of being more organised in your life or be more tidy, stop all of the sudden.

Is your PC slow? Interested in learning how to clean it? We bring you a guide on how to clean out your computer safely from files you no longer need, and make your PC feel brand-new again.

Start-up programs may be slowing down your PC

Task Manager is one of the important tools you will need, and is not a program you install but a little advice, which is why we put some solutions in the head, to provide for increasing the start-up speed of the PC.

The steps are very simple:

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Del on the keyboard (Or right click on the black bar of windows where the programs are) and go to “Task Manager”;
  • On the drop-down menu, you can click “Start”;
  • The list of programs that start when the operating system is turned on will be displayed.

Then the choice automatically becomes personal given the user’s needs, which is you.

Disable all those programs or applications that have a medium-high start-up impact and are not strictly necessary. For example, you could leave the graphics, audio, antivirus drivers by removing the rest of the applications.

Another no less important advice: always from the drop-down menu, you can click on “Performance” this section will give a real-time display of the performance of the PC, the memory used, the processor(s) used, your line and your card video.

From this task you can also understand which of your components is under constant strain.

Clean up your desktop

Cluttering your computer’s desktop is far more harmful than you might think. Cleaning up your desk is a good way to get your work done, but you can’t be efficient without tidying up your desktop PC as well. Here is how you can do this.

Cleaning the desktop is theoretically easy, just select unnecessary folders and press Delete, or drag them to the Trash. A very drastic method, however, and that could make us delete some important files hidden inside the folders. But files and folders aren’t the only icons that cause annoyance on the desktop: the aspect that most of all creates clutter is the quick access to the programs you use most (for example the browser or the Office suite).

The secret is to find other solutions to quickly access applications, files and folders. Also because a desktop full of folders, no matter how tidy and even with quick access, will only slow down the device.
